    Feet.—Aching.—

  • Arn. 3, 2h. From over-walking ; hot foot-bath with Arnica Q, a drachm to the gallon. A very effective alternative footbath is Muriate Ammonia, one drachm to a pint of warm water.

    Feet.—Aching. BURNING. Coldness. Pains In. Soles. Heals. Perspiration. Soreness, BURNING.—

  • Apis 3x, 4h. Burning in the soles.
  • Graph. 6, 4h. < whilst walking.
  • Silic. 6, 4h. Burning in the feet at night.
  • Secale 3, 4h. Burning of the hands and feet.
  • Sul. 3, 4h. Heat of the feet with burning sensation in the evening in bed, followed by itching.

    Coldness—

  • Carb. V. 6, 4h.
  • Secale 3, 4h. With numbness and cramps.

    Pains In—

  • Rhus. T. 3, 4h. Painful drawing, as if sprained ; heaviness and tension ; stitches in the heals, as if stepping on needles ; spasmodic contraction of the toes ; pains < during rest, > during motion.
  • Apis 3x, 4h. Feeling in the feet as if swollen and stiff.
  • Led. 6, 4h. Swelling and pain in the ankle, stiffness of the feet in the morning ; heaviness of the feet ; bruised pain under the heals ; ball of right toe feels soft, thick, painful on stepping ; boring in right great toe.
  • Caul. 1, 4h. Drawing pains in ankle, feet, and toe.

    Soles.—

  • Mur. Ac. 3x, 4h. Pains in, pains on stepping.
  • Phos. Ac. 1, 4h. Violent spasmodic pains in the soles and heels, preventing stepping; burning in feet and soles; heels and balls of toes painful as if sore on stepping; toes sore as if ulcerated.
  • Puls. 3, 4h. Soles painful as if beaten ; burning pain in soles.
  • Petrol. 3, 4h. Soles painful when walking on pavement.
  • Graph. 6, 4h. Burning in soles and heals when walking.
  • Sul. 3, 4h. Burning in soles.
  • Secale 2, 4h. Cramp in the legs and feet ; feet asleep and stiff.
  • Brom. 6, 4h. Neuralgic pain in instep and ball toes ; pain as if stepping on something hard in middle of ball of toes.

    Heals.—

  • Silic. 6, 4h. Tearing in the heals, sprained pain in the ankles, boring in the great toe.
  • Colch. 3, 4h. Cramps in the feet, tearing in the instep and great toe.
  • Calc. Caust. 3, 4h. Tearing in the left heal and tendo Achillis.
  • Valer. 3, 4h. Stinging and pain in the heals, worse when sitting, sticking and weak feeling in the tendo Achillis.
  • Ran. Bulb. 3, 4h. Acute pain in the heels, pulsative stitches in the left heal when standing.
  • Berb. V. 1, 4h. Pain as if ulcerated, on standing.
  • Mur. Ac. 3x, 4h. Drawing tension in tendo Achillis ; slow large stitches in tendo Achillis.

    Perspiration.—

  • Silic. 6, 4h. Excessive and fetid (frequent washing in water containing a little Condy’s fluid ; stockings to be changed every day or oftener).
  • Petrol. 3, 4h. With tenderness of the feet.
  • Sul. 3, 4h. In persons subject to skin eruptions.
  • Nit. Ac. 1, 4h. Profuse perspiration of the soles, causing soreness of the toe and balls of the feet, with sticking pains as if walking on pins.
  • Lyc. 6, 4h. Profuse perspiration of the feet until they become sore.

    Soreness.—

  • Silic. 6, 4h. Soreness of the soles, especially towards the toes.
  • Petrol. 3, 4h. Swelling and heat in anterior portion of the sole.
  • Ant. Crud. 6, 4h. Sensitiveness of the soles, large horny places.
  • All. Cep. 12, 8h. Soreness, easily chafed, especially on heels.

    Fester, Tendency Of Slight Wounds To.—

  • (1) Hep. S. 6, 6h.
  • (2) Gunp. 3x, gr. vi. 6h.
  • (3) Silic. 6, 6h.
  • (4) Petrol. 6, 6h.

    Joints.--

  • Guaiac. 3x, 4h. In gouty subjects.
  • Benz. Ac. 3x, 4h. In gouty subjects with high-smelling urine.
  • Thuja. 3x- 30, 4h. On stretching.
  • Pain in, coxalgia, neuralgia, "hysterical joint," (1) Arg. Met. 6, 4h.; (2) Zinc. 6, 4h.

    Acute Synovitis.-

  • Aco. 3, 1h. In rheumatic subjects, fever, restlessness, anxiety, pain.
  • Bry. 3, 1h. Pain < with every movement, part sensitive to touch.
  • Puls. 3, 1h. In women and children, pain < by heat > by cold.
  • Apis 3x, 2h. Where there is much swelling and little pain.
  • Hep. 6, 4h. When suppuration has taken place. (externally, a lotion of Hep. 6, a teaspoonful to a glassful of distilled water).
  • Sili. 6, 4h. Where discharge has commenced, (externally, a lotion of Sili. 6, a teaspoonful to a glassful of distilled water).

    Chronic Synovitis.-

  • Kali Iod. gr. iii. 6h. Syphilitic or mercurial.
  • Mere. Sol. 6, 4h. Rheumatic.
  • Berb. Ix, 4h. Of the knee.
  • Benz. Ac. 3, 4h. Of the right knee.
  • Iod. 3x, gtt. ii. 4h. Dropsy of the joint.

    Scrofulous Synovitis.-(white swelling).-

    [In all cases where it is tolerated, cod-liver oil should be given, beginning with a teaspoonful twice or three times a day immediately after food; it may be increased in quantity as toleration is established.] Bacil. 30-200, gl. iv. once a week.
  • Calc. C. 30, 8h. In fat subjects of soft fibre, subject to cold clammy feet, heat of the head with perspiration.
  • Puls. 3, 4h. Early in the disease in patients of blonde type and mild disposition, pain, < by heat.
  • Sili. 30, 8h. In thin rickety subjects, offensive perspiration, especially about the head or feet, symptoms > by wrapping up warmly.
  • Phos. 3, 8h. After Sil; emaciation, numbness of the limbs, inability to lie on left side
  • Calc. Phos. 3x, gr. v. 6h. In strumous subjects with enlarged tonsils.
  • Led. 6, 4h. Where there is marked want of animal heat.
  • Aco. 3, 2h. Dry skin, anxiety, fever, and restlessness
  • Phos. Ac. 1, 2h. Hectic.

    Knee.-



  • Benz. Ac. 3, 4h. Pain, swelling, dryness or cracking, especially of right knee.
  • Caust. 6, 8h. Cracking when walking.
  • Berb. Ix, 4h. Stiffness, soreness, pain as if beaten, swelling.
  • Agn. C. 3, 4h. Coldness of knees.
  • Carb. V. 6, 8h. Knees cold, < at night
  • Cocc. I. 3, 2h. Knees sink down from weakness, cracking in the joints.
  • Dioscorea 3, 2h. Sharp pain, weakness, grating sensation. See also Joints, Rheumatism, etc.

    Legs.-

    Cramp In.-
    See Cramp.

    Pain In.-

  • Diosco, 3-30, 4h. Pain in legs making lame.
  • Carb. A. 6, 4h. Cramp in forepart of leg near tibia, when walking; gnawing pain in shin bones; painful contraction in calves when walking.
  • Guaiac. 3, 4h. Pain from ankle half way up the leg, causing lameness
  • Lach. 6, 4h. Pain with great sensitiveness to touch.
  • Badiag. 6, 4h. Pain in tibia.

    Rheumatic Gout.-
    (Chronic Rheumatic Arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis).-
  • Puls. 3, 4h. Digestion disordered; in females, menses scanty; melancholia; spindle-shaped swelling of the fingers.
  • Act. R. 3, 2h. Accompanying uterine disorder or coming on at the change of life, the pains < at night, and in wet, windy weather.
  • Caulo. 3, 2h. When the pains are worst in the small joints.
  • Sabin. 3, 4h. When the affection of the joints is decidedly inflammatory; especially in females if there is menorrhagia.
  • Ferr .Pic. 3x-3, gr. ii. 8h. In gouty persons, dark hair; tendency to warts or corns.
  • Guaiac. 3x, gtt. v. 8h. Shooting and tearing pains and contraction of parts affected, < by the least movement, stiffness of the parts. Deep constitutional remedies, especially Carcinosin and Bacillinum, will help these cases. I have found Strychninum also very valuable and the administration of Strych. 6, gtt. viii. in a glass of water on rising and Carcin. 200, twenty-four numbered powders, of which numbers 1, 11 and 17 have six globules of the remedy, one to be taken at bed-time in numerical order, very effective in many cases.
  • lod. 3x, 2h. Pain, heat, swelling of joints, < on touch or motion, great loss of flesh, ravenous appetite.
  • Ars. 3, 2h. Pains worse in cold, damp weather, low fever, restlessness, anxiety. The medicines already named and those advised below under Rheumatism, chronic, may be given according to particular indications. [The diet should be unstimulating. Wines and malt liquors and strongly-spiced food should be avoided. A warm, dry climate, if practicable, is to be advised.]

    Rheumatism.—Acute And Subacute (Rheumatic Fever).—

  • Acon. 1—3, 1h. Fever, restlessness, anxiety, pain in joints.
  • Sul. 1—30, 2h. After Acon., when the pains are < at night, and by warmth, sinking sensation.
  • Bry. 3, 1h. After Acon. much pain in the joints, the least motion is unendurable.
  • Merc. V. 12, 2h. Pain and swelling of joints, < at night; profuse sweat which gives no relief, sometimes oily or offensive; pericardial complications. (I have cured many cases with this alone.)
  • Rhus T. 1—3, 1h. When there is great restlessness, the pain being > by moving about.
  • Calc. Carb. 30, 2h. Heat and sweat of head, cold clammy feet and hands, violent perspiration at 3 a.m., pains < by every movement; after bathing, or working in water.
  • Act. R. 1, 1h. When the pain attacks the back, back of the neck, and back of the head, with restlessness, and pain in the eyes.
  • Stell. Med. 2x, 2h. Shifting rheumatic pains in all parts with soreness, < by motion, with pains in liver. (Locally, Stell. Med. ?, zi—Olive oil, zzi.).
  • Dulc. 3, 1h. Subacute rheumatism from getting cold and wet.
  • Puls. 3, 2h. Subacute—knees, ankles, and small joints of hands and feet affected; shifting about, coming on with faulty digestion; the pains < at night, in a warm room and by rest, > in the open air and by motion.
  • Ars. 3, 4h. Similar pains (like Puls.) when the patient hugs the fire and desires warm wraps.
  • Kalmia 3, 2h. Acute, non-febrile rheumatism of the joints, the pains shifting much.
  • Benz. Ac. Ix—3x, 2h. When the urine is strong-smelling and high colored.
  • Arbut. Andr. single doses, or 3x, 4h. Pains < in north-east winds, larger joints chiefly affected, slightest movement sets up inflammation.

    Pericarditis. {See Under Heart.} Endocarditis. (See Under Heart.)

  • Sul. 3—30, 6h., and at increasing intervals. For pain, swelling, and joint-weakness remaining after an attack.
  • Arn. 3, 2h. Muscular pains and stiffness after.
  • Chin. Sul. 3x, gr. iv. 4h. Weakness after.
  • Calc. Phos. 3, gr. iv. 8h. Weakness after.

    Rickets.-

  • Calc. Phos. 3, gr. v. 8h. In fat children of soft fiber.
  • Ars. 3, 4h. In thin, puny children.
  • Silic. 6, 4h. Rickety children, thin, puny, perspiring head and feet. Where there is tubercular family history.
  • (1) Bacil. 30-200, gl. iv. once a week (a course of this will benefit most cases). Where there is tubercular family history.
  • (2) Phos. 3-30, 4h. In vaccinal cases.
  • (3) Thuja. 6-30, night and morning.


    Walking.-Delay In.-

  • Calc. C. 6, 4h. If the children is fat.
  • Sil. 6, 4h. If thin and puny.
  • Bacil. 30, once a week. In phthisical children. [ Country air and chalk soil for residence, with careful dieting, should if possible be secured.]
