Angina Pectoris.—
  • Hydro Ac. 3x, 1/4h. Palpitation, paroxysm, anxiety, small pulse, associated with epilepsy.
  • Gloni. 3,1/4h. violent beating as if heart would burst chest open, laboured breathing, pains radiating in all directions, down left arm with weakness of it.
  • Spig. 3, 1/4h. Pressure and oppression, darting, shooting, stabbing, or lacerating pain, faintness and dyspnoea, pain down left arm, effects of tobacco or alcohol.
  • Naja 6,1/4h. Nervous irritation depression, pain at the heart and tremulous irritability of the heart.
  • Cact. 3. 1h. Pain as if the heart were gripped with an iron hand, constriction of the chest.
  • Act. R. 3, 1h, Pain at the heart rheumatic symptoms.
  • Cupr. Met. 6, 1/4h. Angina with asthmatic symptoms and cramps.
  • Lil. T. 30, 8h. Tobacco angina, dragging down sensation, oppression of breathing, with great restlessness.
  • Lith. Carb. 6, 8h. Pain at heart in morning, on bending forward in bed, or before and during urination.
  • Naja 30, Is a best remedy to relieve pain, a dose every half hour for 2----3 doses.
  • Amyl Nitrate may be given 3 drops on cotton wool to relieve the pain if other medicine fail.

    Heart.—Pericarditis.—

  • Acon. 3, 1h. If taken at the very commencement, pain, oppression, anxiety, restlessness, fever.
  • Bry. 1, 3h. After Acon., pain sharp, worse on motion.
  • Merc. S. 3. gr. v. 4h. Little fever, much effusion.
  • Ars. 3, 2h. Effusion remaining behind after the acute symptoms have passed. Pericarditis secondary to Bright's disease.

    Endocarditis.—

  • Aco. 3, 1h. Stitching pain in chest, anxiety, restlessness, fever.
  • Spig. 3, 1h. Sharp, shooting pains in the region of the heart, palpitation, restlessness.
  • Lach. 6, 1h. Ulcerative.
  • Echin. q, gtt. v. 4h. With low fever.
  • Kalm. 1, 2h. With rheumatism of joints, pains shifting much.
  • Gunp. 3x, gr. iv. 2h. In pyaemic conditions.
  • Naja 6, 4h. Valvular affections remaining after the acute stage is past.

    Hypertrophy, Suffering From.—

  • Arn. 3, 4h. When the hypertrophy has been brought on by prolonged over-exertion, as in athletes. [When the hypertrophy is secondary to valve disease, it is really compensatory and not a morbid condition; but then it sometimes gives rise to great distress, which may be removed by treatment as indicated.]
  • Acon. 3, 2h. Feeling of weight at the heart, palpitation, strong beats, throbbing in the carotid and temporal arteries.
  • Cact. G. 3, 2h. Violent palpitation, felt worse on lying on the back, increased by excitement, motion, rising up suddenly or walking; throbbing of the temporal arteries, flushed face, headache at the vertex.
  • Bell. 3, 2h. Much palpitation, felt in the throat, full pulse, sleeplessness and restlessness at night. See also Palpitation.

    Dilation And Weakness Of The Heart-Muscle

  • Ars. Iod. 3x, thrice daily, immediately after food. (whether consequent on valvular disease, or due to general debility, or to primary fatty degeneration of the muscular fibers). In general, especially if co-existent with respiratory affections. [If this fails to give any relief, it should be left off entirely and the medicines to be named given as indicated.]
  • Crataeg. q, gtt. v. 4—8h. Weak heart, with or without valvular disease, dropsy, dyspnoea; nervous, irritable, melancholic.
  • Phaseol. 9x, gr. ii. 6h. Irregular, intermittent, feeble action, sudden pain in heart region.
  • Baryt. Carb. 3x, gr. v, 6h. Great weakness, anxiety, long lasting palpitation.
  • Dign. 3, gr. v. 4h. Slow pulse, intermittent or irregular, palpitation on the slightest movement, breathlessness, pallor and faintness on sitting up.
  • Thyr. 3x, gr. iv.—30, 4h. Palpitation and fainting fits, worse on movement or stooping.
  • Mosch. 6, 1—2h. Frequent fainting attacks.
  • Cact. G. 3, 4h. Constrictive feeling at the chest, violent palpitation.
  • Stroph. q gtt. i.—v. or 3x, 4h. Degeneration of heart muscle; small frequent irregular pulse; dyspnoea; oedema; nervous palpitation and arrest of breathing; loathing of food, vomiting, distaste for alcohol.
  • Act. R. 3, 4h. Pains about the heart, followed by palpitation, "sinking" sensation at the pit of the stomach.
  • Spigel. 3, 4h. Darting, stabbing, shooting, or lancinating pain at the heart, passing down the left arm.
  • Naja 6, 4h. Pain at the heart and down the left arm, with numbness, palpitation, faintness.

    Fatty Heart.—

    The treatment of fatty degeneration is that same as that for Dilatation.
  • Phos. 3, 4h. For deposit of fat about the heart as a part of general obesity., with suitable regimen and diet. After this, Baryt. C. 3x, gr. v. 6h. When the symptoms are such as indicating degeneration, the medicines recommended for Dilation may be given as indicated.

    Nervous Weakness.—

  • Spig. 1—30, 4h. From excessive use of stimulants and tobacco, pain at the heart, depression, palpitation, nervousness, without any signs of structural lesion.
  • Cact. G. 3, 4h. Palpitation worse on walking; when lying on left side at night; dull, heavy pains, worse by slight excitement; constriction as if heart grasped by iron hand; very acute pain, stitches that cause weeping and crying aloud, with obstruction of breathing; pricking pains at heart, impeding respiration and movements of body.
  • Naja 6, 4h. Heavy sensation; uneasiness; great pain near heart; depression, lowness.
  • Lil. T. 30, 8h. Violent beating, throbbing in carotids, felt only when lying in bed or during a siesta; hurried, pressing feeling, relieved when busy; interrupted pulsations of heart and breathing; dull, heavy or pressive pain in region of heart; heaviness; palpitation when lying on left side; pain in left side, as if the heart were suddenly gripped (or alternately grasped and relaxed), waking from sleep; pressive pains; sharp pain.
  • Lith. C. 6, 8h. Pain in region of heart before and during menses; and before and during urination.

    Palpitation—

    [This is a symptom of most kinds of heart disease. The cases now considered are those where there is no structural disorder to be made out, or where palpitation is the chief trouble complained of.]
  • Aco. 3, 2h. Palpitation in a heart that retains its vigor.
  • Nux V. 3, 2h. From indigestion; < after eating, flatulence after eating, constipation.
  • Puls. 3, 2h. From indigestion in females or blonde persons, acidity, bowels inclined to be loose.
  • Carb. V. 6,2h. With excessive flatulence in the stomach after food, > by eructations.
  • Iberis 3, 4h. Palpitation and irregular action.
  • Mosch. 3, every twenty minutes. Nervous palpitation, during the paroxysm, fainting or faintness.
  • Thyr. 2x, gr. ii.—30, 4h. Palpitation and fainting, exceedingly rapid action.
  • Crataeg. q, gtt. v. 2h. Palpitation, heart-failure threatened.
  • Dign. 3, gr. iv. 2h. Palpitation with irregular or intermittent action.
  • Ign. 3, 2h. Nervous palpitation in persons of great impressionability, < at night in bed, palpitation keeping the patient awake.
  • Lach. 6, 2h. Palpitation on the least excitement, especially at the change of life.
  • Act. R. 3, 2h. Palpitation with "sinking" sensation at the pit of the stomach, and great uneasiness, sleeplessness.
  • Cact. G. 3, 2h. Palpitation with tightness across the praecordia.
  • Spigel. 3, 2h. Palpitation with shooting, cutting pain in the region of the heart.
  • Bell. 3, 2h. Palpitation on slight exertion; with full, throbbing headache, flushed face, great sensibility to light and noise.
  • Nat. M. 6, 2h. Palpitation when lying down in bed at night or after food.
