Haemorrhoids or Piles.-


  • Ham. 1-3, 4h. Bleeding piles with open or loose bowels; locally, a lotion of Ham. q, thirty drops to the half-pint of water, with which the part should be bathed night and morning; and at night a piece of lint dipped in this lotion may be placed on the tumour, or just inside the orifice.
  • Verbascum ointment (Verbascum Q, zi., Vaseline or Unguent. Cetac. zzi.). For irritation from piles. Another useful local measure is the insertion at bedtime of a suppository containing, Hamamelin gr. ¼ .
  • Nux V. 3, 8h. Blind piles in persons of sedentary life, spare, of costive habits.
  • Sulph. 3, 8h. Bleeding piles, costiveness, sinking at the stomach, especially in the forenoon; flushing; fainty spells; heat of the head with cold feet; irritable skin; < at night on getting warm in bed, and from washing.
  • Thuja. 1-30, 4h. In sycotic subjects; swollen haemorrhoids, pain < sitting or walking; pressing, itching and burning in haemorrhoids; moisture at anus.
  • Mere. Viv. 3, gr. viii.-12, 4h. Protruding haemorrhoids, discharge of bloody mucus from anus; (follows well after Thuja)
  • Nit. Ac. 5-30, 4h. Burning, itching at anus, excoriation; cutting pain after stool, protruding haemorrhoids, constipation, fissure.
  • Phos. 6, 4h. Protrusion and ready bleeding of haemorrhoids, constipation; moisture about anus, fissure; cramp and contraction of rectum.
  • Aesch. Hip. 3x, 4h. Where there is much uneasiness in the parts, pain in the back, constipation, prolapse of rectum, generally absence of bleeding symptoms < by walking; piles associated with throat symptoms.
  • Caust. 5-30, 8h. Hard piles extremely painful when touched, when walking, standing or sitting; > after a stool; piles impeding stool; itching, stitching, moist, stinging and burning; < when thinking of them; < by touch; < when exerting voice,
  • Am. Carb. 5, 4h. Haemorrhoids protruding before, during and after stool; burning and itching in anus; < during menses.
  • Mur. Ac. 3x, 4h. Great sensitiveness of the anus, itching, weakness of the sphincter and tendency to prolapse.
  • Aloe 1, 4h. Heat, rawness, soreness, loose motions, prolapse, bleeding; piles protrude like a bunch of grapes; constipation, or feeling of insecurity of bowels.
  • Amm. Mur. 3x, 4h. Piles with burning and stinging in rectum; sore and smarting; mucous discharge; constipation.
  • Caps. 3, 4h. Piles burning as if pepper sprinkled on; tenesmus of rectum and bladder; tenacious mucus mixed with black blood; cutting colic before stool; tenesmus cutting and twisting during stool; after stool tenesmus, burning, thirst, drinking causing shuddering, drawing pains in the back; piles swollen, itching, throbbing; soreness in anus; bleeding or blue; with mucous discharge; with bloody mucous stools; with drawing pain in small of back and cutting in abdomen.
  • Carb. a. 6, 4h. Piles bum and sting.
  • Ant. C. 6, 4h. Haemorrhoids burning, tingling; itching and fissures in anus.
  • Carb. V. 6, 4h. Soreness, itching, moisture; piles protrude, blue suppurating and offensive; with burning; stitches in rectum.
  • Ignat. 3, 4h. Blind piles with pressure and soreness in anus and rectum; painful while sitting and standing, less while walking, though renewed and worse after taking the fresh air; prolapse of rectum from moderate exertion after stool; sharp burning pain in rectum.
  • Collin. Ix-3, 4h. Piles with constipation from inertia of the rectum, especially when connected with uterine disorders or pregnancy, piles bleed, but only with great pressure.
  • Puls. 3, 4h. In blonde persons of the feminine type, bowels open or loose; mucous discharge.
  • Hyperic. Ix, 4h. Piles with much pain, bleeding and soreness; burning, biting and dryness in rectum (when persons who have piles take pneumonia)
  • Fluor. Ac. 3, gtt. ii. 6h. After all acute symptoms are passed, and only an insensitive swelling remains behind; external piles. [Patients should sit on wooden or cane-bottomed chairs.] See also Constipation.
