Rheumatic Gout.-
(Chronic Rheumatic Arthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis).-
Puls. 3, 4h. Digestion disordered; in females, menses scanty; melancholia; spindle-shaped swelling of the fingers.
Act. R. 3, 2h. Accompanying uterine disorder or coming on at the change of life, the pains < at night, and in wet, windy weather.
Caulo. 3, 2h. When the pains are worst in the small joints.
Sabin. 3, 4h. When the affection of the joints is decidedly inflammatory; especially in females if there is menorrhagia.
Ferr .Pic. 3x-3, gr. ii. 8h. In gouty persons, dark hair; tendency to warts or corns.
Guaiac. 3x, gtt. v. 8h. Shooting and tearing pains and contraction of parts affected, < by the least movement, stiffness of the parts.
Deep constitutional remedies, especially Carcinosin and Bacillinum, will help these cases. I have found Strychninum also very valuable and the administration of Strych. 6, gtt. viii. in a glass of water on rising and Carcin. 200, twenty-four numbered powders, of which numbers 1, 11 and 17 have six globules of the remedy, one to be taken at bed-time in numerical order, very effective in many cases.
lod. 3x, 2h. Pain, heat, swelling of joints, < on touch or motion, great loss of flesh, ravenous appetite.
Ars. 3, 2h. Pains worse in cold, damp weather, low fever, restlessness, anxiety.
The medicines already named and those advised below under Rheumatism, chronic, may be given according to particular indications.
[The diet should be unstimulating. Wines and malt liquors and strongly-spiced food should be avoided. A warm, dry climate, if practicable, is to be advised.]
