A rapid method of reducing weight is to adoptan exclusive fruit dietary, taking no other food whatever and no drink. This may be arranged by making a breakfast of aranges, luncheon of apples and bananas, tea of oranges, dinner of apples, tomatoes, and bananas. I have sometimes found it useful and practicable to make a modification of this, allowing a breakfast of oranges and tea of the same, with an ordinary lunch and dinner. The amount of fruit taken for a meal will depend on the individual patient. I have found three or four oranges generally suffice for a breakfast.
The following dietary is to be recommended:--
At breakfast and tea-time:- Tea or black coffee without sugar.
Dry, toasted wheaten bread, especially brown bread, or plain hard biscuits; gluten biscuits; lean meat, poultry, game, lean ham, tongue; fish, not of the rich kinds, and eaten without rich sauce of butter, but with lemon-juice or vinegar; eggs; green vegetables, cresses, lettuces, endive; fresh fruits but not of the highly saccharine kind.
During lunch and dinner:- No drink should be taken, but one or two glasses of fresh water at starting. Avoid the water after lunch and dinner.
