Fertility And Infertility

Self Help For Improving Fertility

It is important for both partners to be in as good health as possible - chronic infections should be cleared up and other health problems attended to. Exercise should be taken regularly, but not to the point of excess; overwork and stress should be avoided as far as possible. If you feel tense, tired or run down, it may be necessary to consult a practitioner to help improve your general health and vitality.
Relaxation exercises, hypnotherapy, yoga, T’ai Chi, meditation, counseling or psychotherapy may help where unexplained fertility problems are related to stress or emotional problems. Now is the time to deal with such issue.
Cold hip baths may help low sperm production and menstrual problems as they increase circulation to the productive system.
Clearly, the most likely time to conceive is around the time of ovulation. During that week make love only two or three times; any more and you may deplete vital energy and reduce the sperm count. Abstaining for the week leading up to this time will allow sperm and energy to build up and increase fertility.
Make sure your menstrual cycle is regular so that you can tell when you are ovulating. A temperature chart is often helpful. If you have menstrual problems, use homoeopathic or herbs and diet to treat them (se the menstrual problems).
The sperm need to be deposited high in the vagina and stay there for at least half an hour after sex. So the penis needs to penetrate deeply and it is best for the woman not to jump up immediately afterwards to wash or pass water. Lie on your back with your knees raised; this is the best way to help the sperm’s journey to the fallopian tubes.
Men should keep their testicles cool; it is better to wear boxer shorts rather than tight underpants, loose trousers, and avoid hot baths and electric blankets.

Diet And Medicine To Enhance Fertility

Dietary measures

a. To help the ensure the pH balance of the cervical mucus, you need to eat plenty of alkaline foods. An over-acid vagina will inhibit sperm. Most fruits and vegetables, as well as milk, are alkaline. Meat, fish, whole grain, cheese, eggs, and seeds are acid. Tea, coffee and alcohol acidity the system.
b. Try to make sure your weight is right for you. Over-exercising, or excess dieting causing low weight, can stop ovulation.
c. Eat plenty of foods containing essential fatty acids - unrefined vegetable and seed oils, beans and pulses, fatty fish and Evening Primrose oil. Linseed oil, Blackcurrant, Borage Seed oil are all good sources. Eat food containing vitamin E (see diet chart) which is vital to fertility, as well as foods containing protein, vitamin A, C, Bs, and minerals. Avoid coffee and alcohol which can cause vitamin B6 deficiency. Supplements of the above nutrients may be necessary to improve fertility.
d. Avoid any unnecessary drugs, junk foods, fatty foods and tobacco.
